Nazareth War Veteran Killed As Auto Hits Pole
Archibald R. Abel, 49, Dies Instantly of Broken Neck and Fractured Skull
Archibald R. Abel, 49, Nazareth World War veteran was instantly killed at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, when the coupe he was driving on Walnut St., Between Fairview and Liberty Sts, Nazareth skidded and crashed broadside into a service pole.

When the car started to skid it mounted the curb and struck the pole after traveling about 30 feet. The door of the machine had be be pried open to remove abel, who was pronounced dead by Dr. E.A. N. Seyfried. Abel’s neck and skull were fractured. His right arm was fractured in two places.

Abel was a past commander of the Harold V. Knecht post, No. 418, American Legion, and was born may 21, 1890, in Nazareth. He entered the service for overseas duty, May 14, 1918, and was discharged June 28, 1918, being a member of Co. B. Ammunition Train, 7th Motor Battalion.

Engaged as custodian of the Nazareth post office he was a son of Mrs. Henrietta Frankenfield and the late Tilghman Abel.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Camp 445, P.O. S of A., American Legion Post 415.

Survivors are his mother and the following brothers and sisters; Frank of Nazareth, Clayton, Tarrington, Conn.; Asher, Allentown; Elmer, Nazareth, Mrs. Jennie Hay, Bethlehem; Mrs. Carrie Sandt, Stockertown; Mrs. Irene Hartzell of Bath.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the late home 135 S. Whitfield St., Nazareth. Burial in St. John’s Union Cemetery, Nazareth. Viewing Tuesday 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bartholomew Home, S. Walnut St, Bath.
