Leander K. Stem
Leander K. Stem, 64, of 2455 Front St., Avona Heights, Wilson, died yesterday in his home. He was in failing health the last year.
He was a self employed painter and paperhanger. He also was a maintenance worker for the Borough of Wilson for several years, retiring in 1977.
He was previously a truck driver for Eastern Freightways, Easton, for seven years; a retail bakery route driver for Schaibles Bakery, Wilson, for 21 years: and a weaver for the Victor Balata Belting Co., Wilson, for 21 years.
Born in Easton, on June 4, 1914, he was a son of the late Leander K. and Gertrude Grube Stem Sr.
He was a member of the First Evangelical Congregational Church, Easton.
He was past president of the Avona Fire Co., Avona Heights.
Surviving are his wife, the former Evelyn Werkheiser; a son,*****, and a daughter, *****, both of Nazareth; a stepson, *****, Dover, N.J.; a stepdaughter, *****, Bangor; a brother, Raymond of Nazareth; four sisters, Mrs. Bertha Holdsworth, Palmer Township, and Mrs. Hazel Sargent, Mrs. Mabel Hummel and Mrs. Ethel Golden, all of Wilson, and 15 grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, Easton. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine. |
