Edwin M. Steckel, Found Dead in Car
Edwin M. Steckel, 66, of Brienigsville, R. D. 1, a retired
machinist who was born in Easton, was found dead in his car
at 5 p.m. yesterday at the farm by his sister, Miss Jennie
Steckel. A hose from the exhaust led inside the car.
Lehigh County Coroner Clayton O. P. Werley pronounced him
dead and issued a certificate of death by asphyxiation from
carbon monoxide. Mr. Steckel reportedly had been despondent
because of a back ailment which kept him from working.
He retired four years ago after 30 years as a machinist for
the Mack Manufacturing Corp. Illness forced his retirement
from farming this spring.
Mr. Steckel was a son of the late Frantz S. and Lillie M.
Knerr Steckel. He was of the Evangelical and Reformed faith.
Surviving in addition to his sister, are his widow, the former
Agnes Seibert; two sons Ellis, of Houston, Texas, and Homer
of Loeka, Fla; two brothers, William G., of Fogelsville, and
Robert F., of Allentown; two other sisters, Mrs. Asher Abel
and Mrs. Harry B. Parks Sr., both of Allentown; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the
Trexler Funeral home, Allentown. |
