Ellis M. Steckel; Operated Stores
Ellis M. Steckel, 63, of Whitehall, former owner and operator
of grocery stores on Church Street in Catasauqua and at Madison
and Union streets in Allentown, died Sunday in the Liberty
Nursing Center, Allentown.
He and his wife, the former Ruth C. Weber, operated a grocery
store in Catasauqua, for seven years just after World war II
and for more than a year after that in Allentown. Before entering
the service he was employed by theReeves Parvin Co., wholesale
grocers in Allentown.
His late employement was with the Link Belt Division of FMC
Corp., Houston, Tex., for 18 years. He retired last year.
Born in Catasauqua, he was a so of the late Edwin M. and Agnes
Seibert Steckel. He resied for thelast year at the Spring Ridge
Apts., 114th and Fairmont streets, Whitehall.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Steckel was on the varisty basketball team while attending
Catasauqua High School 1923-27.
Surviving besides his widow is a brother Home of Perry, Fla.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the J. S. Burkholder
Funeral Home, 1601 Hamilton St., Allentown. There will be no
calling hours. |
