Isreal J Kiefer 76 of 835 Berwick Street, died at 5:30 o'clock this morning at the home of his son, the Rev Leslie Kiefer, in Mahanoy City, where he had been visiting. Mr. Kiefer had been in ill health for several months.
He was born in Easton, a son of the late Edward and Sarah Kiefer and later resided in Raubsville. He had been employed as a night watchman and timekeeper at Hotel Easton until a year ago and was one of the first employees at the hotel. Prior to working at the hotel he was employed by the Lehigh Valley Railroad as a fireman and hostler.
Mr. Kiefer was a member of the Christ Evangelical Church and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and firemen.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma Jan Bright Kiefer, three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Kreps, of Easton, Mrs. Ida Jennings of Phillipsburg, and Mrs. John Labate of New York City; three sons: William R Kiefer of Phillipsburg, Adjutant Preston D Kiefer of the Salvation Army, Vincennes Ind. and the Rev Mr. Kiefer of Mahanoy City; three sisters Mrs. Sarah Fishler of Easton, Mrs. Minerva Bassett of Easton and Mrs. Matilda Walters of Easton; two brothers William Kiefer of Easton and Edward Kiefer of Raubsville and nine grandchildren. |
