William R. Kiefer, 95, formerly of the first block of Lewis Street, Phillipsburg, and Easton Nursing Center, died Wednesday in Warren Hospital. He was the husband of the late Florence (Swartz) Kiefer.
He was a railway clerk for the former Jersey Central Railroad for 44 years before retiring in 1963.
Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Israel and Emma (Bright) Kiefer.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Phillipsburg.
He was a corporal during World War I with the Easton City Guard, which was part of the 149th Machine Gunnery Battalion. He participated in several campaigns, including Champagne-Marne, Meuse- Argonne, Chateau-Thierry and St. Michiel.
Survivors: Daughter, **** of Phillipsburg; brother, the Rev. Leslie, residence unknown; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Hazel Bonnell.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Rupell Funeral Home, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg. No calling hours. |
