Cornelius W. Garis
Cornelius Weygandt Garis, 83, for many years a resident of
Easton died at 9 o'clock last evening at the home of his son,
Harry W. Garis, at Washington, D.C. after an illness of ten
days.
Mr. Garis was born in Easton, a son of the late Samuel and
Susan Eichman Garis, He was a grandson of the late Valentine
Garis, who founded a furniture factory and store in Easton
in 1785.
For a number of years Cornelius W. Garis condcuted a furniture
manufacturing establishment at Pine and Mulberry streets. Later
he became a salesman for different houses, but retired ten
years ago.
His wife, Mrs. Minnie Flemming Garis, died on November 9,
1926. He is survived by three sons, Heberrt H. Garis, 101 West
Lafayette Street, this city, president of the J. T. Baker Chemical
Company; Phillipsburg, Dr. Charles F. F. Gris, deans of students
and professor of mathematics at Union College, Schenectady,
N.Y. and Harry W. Garis, who holds a governement poistion at
Washington D.C.. He also leaves three brothers, William E.
Garis, Bethlehem, Charles E. Garis, Phillipsburgs and Dr. Frank
Garis, of Philadelphia. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran
Church. |
