Herbert H. Garis, Former President of J. T. Baker
Herbert H. Garis, 90 of 101 W. Lafayette St., Easton, died yesterday in Easton Hospital.

He was president of J.T. Baker Chemical Co., Phillipsburg, form 1926 to 1949. He began working for the company in 1905 soon after its founding. He was the a general assistant to Mr. Baker, in charge of sales and financial matters. During the period he had been with the company, it gained an important place in the chemical industry and branched out into medical chemistry with branches in New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Chicago. He continued on, upon retirement, as a director and consultant for company affairs.

Born in Easton, on August 23, 1886, he was a son of the late Cornelius and Minnie Flemming Garis.

He was a member of the College Hill Presbyterian Church; past director of the Easton National Bank and trust Co. and served the board of Governors of Northampton County Country Club and the board of Easton Hospital. He was a member of the Pomfret Club.

His wife the former Emma Kleinhans, died in May 1967.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. James Zeller Jr., and Mrs. John S. McAbee, borth of Easton; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the College Hill Presbyterian Church Chapel. Interment will be in Easton Cemetery. Arrangements are in the charge of the Shillinger Funeral Home, Easton
