Boy Coaster Killed When Sled Runs Into Big Motor Truck
Dashing Into Rear Part of Truck, Life of Kenneth Stocker Crushed
Out when Wheel Passed Over Head
Coasting down the Locust Street hill yesterday afternoon at
3:45 o'clock, Kenneth Stocker, of 537 Lawrence Street, was
instantly killed when his sled collided with a two-ton Daeufer
Brewing Co. Truck at the corner of Lawrence and Locust streets.
The boys usually turn west on Lawrence street, but just as
Kenneth, riding on the the same sled with a young friend, came
to the corner the truck appeared and the sled shot directly
beneath the rear wheel. Although his friend escaped unscratched,
the wheel passing over the side of young Stocker's head and
killed him instantly. The truck was driven by Joseph Boehmer,
a close neighbor of the Stockers at 234 Locust Street who is
reported to be a very careful driver. The accident appears
to have been entirely unavoidable on his part.
The boy would have been eight years old on January 20 and
was attending third grade in the Garber-Horne building. He
is a son of Herman H. and Sarah A., nee Harrison, Stocker,
and besides them is survived by the following brothers and
sisters: Ada, Irene Helen, Harry, George, Charles and Oliver,
all of this city, and Mrs. Ben Nagle of Philadelphia. The father
is a cement finisher for the Ochs Constructing company. |
