Mrs. C. W. Altemus, 95, Writer of Poems, Stories
Mrs. Ida Altemus, 95, of 743 Grant St., died at 8:20 p.m. yesterday
in Easton Hospital. She was admitted to the hospital Monday.
Mrs. Altemus celebrated her 95th birthday anniversary on July
18. She had written numerous short stories and poems as a hobby,
but had never had them published.
She was the widow of Charles W. Altemus, who operated a men's
clothing store in the old Abel Opera House. He died in 1918.
She had resided at the home of her son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. William H. Plummer, of the Grant street address,
for the last five years.
Born July 18, 1862, in Williams Township, she was a daughter
of the late William and Sarah Laubach Stocker.
She was a member of St. Paul's Third Lutheran Church, and
it's Ladies Auxiliary and Sewing Circle.
Surviving in addition to her daughter, is a son, Charles W.,
Easton; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. There
also are two nieces. Mrs. Marion Hyatt, Anchorage, Alaska and
Mrs. Florence Dooley, Bedford, VA.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Strunk
Funeral Home, Easton. |
