Dr. John Sandt
At one o’clock this (Saturday) afternoon, Dr. John Sandt, a well-known practitioner and resident of College Hill, died after a short illness at the advanced age of 67 years. About two weeks ago he was afflicted with a disease similar to that of paralysis of the heart, which was the cause of his death.
Dr. Sandt was born in Forks Township, being a son of the late Phil Sandt, deceased. He attended Lafayette College and afterward studied medicine. He settled in Plainfield Township, where he remained for a short time, and then moved to Stockertown, where he practiced for a number of years prior to moving to College Hill. Which was fifteen years ago.
He leaves a wife, tow son and three daughters, Misses Emma and Anna Sandt, Mrs. Porter Shimer; Frank, principal of Easton High School and George a preacher at Weissport, besides the following brothers and sisters – Philip, of Stockertown, Wm. P., of Forks Township; Edwin, of College Hill, Amandus Sandt, Mrs. Edwin Lerch, of Forks Township; Mrs. Jacob Lear, of Allentown, and Mrs. Joseph Michael, of Easton. The deceased was one of Easton’s most respected citizens and at the time of his death was one of the elders of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He has taken active part in Republican local politics, and was many times elected chairman of the caucuses of his party in his ward. |
