Roy E. Metler, 24, Marine veteran of World War II
Roy E. Metler 34, of 12 Centre Square, a Marine veteran of World War
II, died today at 1:05 a.m. in Easton Hospital. He had been ill for
several months and was admitted to the hospital yesterday afternoon.
Mr. Metler worked for the last month as a short order cook at Frank's
Top Hat Restaurant on William Penn Highway, and prior to that, was
employed in he same capacity at the Turnabout Diner on Memorial Parkway,
Phillipsburg.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps on Dec. 12, 1942, He attended Marine
officer candidate school at Quantico Va. While at the school he was
injured in training, and received a disabling discharge in August 1945.
Before entering the service and immediately after his discharge, he
worked as a route salesman for Schaible's Bakery.
Mr. Metler was born in Easton, Feb 6, 1918, a son of Mrs. Lydia V.
Conine Metler, of 849 Grant Street, and the late Edgar A. Metler. He
resided with his family in Phillipsburg for several years, and later
moved to Easton, graduating from Easton High School in 1935.
He was a member of Christ Evangelical United Brethren Church; Rice-Ebner
post 588, American Legion; the McKinley Club; Jacksonian Democratic
Association; and the Fleas, Pioneer and Weston clubs. In former years
he was a member of the Pioneer Quoit team.
Surviving are his wife, Romaine Miller Barr Metler; his mother; a
brother John W;., of Easton, and a half-sister, Mrs. John Meissner,
of Lebanon, N.J.. His brother, CPL Edgar A. Metler, was killed in action
last August in Korea. |
