Easton Soldier Killed in Action, Bath Man Hurt
Bodies of Two Others Being Returned For Burial
Cpl. Edgar A. Metler, 23, of Easton, was killed in action in Korea
on Aug. 27, according to a telegram send by the Defense Department
to his mother, Mrs. Lydia Metler of 849 Grant Street.
Cpl. Metler was serving with the 28th Infantry Regiment. He was drafter
last Oct. 30.
Born in Phillipsburg on May 23, 1928, he was a son of the late Edgar
A. Metler. He had lived in Easton since 1932 and was a graduate of
Easton High School, class of 1945. before entering service he was employed
by the Dixie Cup Company.
In high school, Cpl. Metler played on the varsity football team. Maintaining
his interest in athletics after his graduation, he played football
with the Nazareth A.A. and softball with the Dixie Cup team, bowled
at the Easton Fleas Club, and was a member of the Rice-Ebner American
Legion Post Quoit team.
He was a member of Christ Evangelical United Brethren Church and the
Easton High School Varsity "E: Club.
Surviving, besides his mother, are two brothers, Roy E. and John W.
served with Marine Corps during World War II. |
