Alfred A. McCabe, Alderman, Elks Leader, is Dead
Former Deputy Sheriff Was Foreman at Sanco Plant
Alfred A. McCabe, 63, alderman in Easton’s 12th Ward,
former Northampton County deputy sheriff and past district
deputy sheriff and past district deputy of the Benevolent and
Protective Order of Elks, died last night at Easton Hospital.
He was admitted to the hospital Jan 28.
Mr. McCabe resided at 839 W. Berwick St. He had been in failing
health for about two years.
He was elected to the aldermanic post in 1945 and was re-elected
in 1951. He had served as deputy under Sheriffs Charles H.
Unangst, E. Albert Boyer and W. Calvin Nickel from 1932 to
1944. He was unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic nomination
for sheriff in 1939.
He was a past exalted ruler of the Easton Elks Lodge 121.
A life-long resident of Easton, he was born on Aug 2, 192.
He was a son of the late Terence and Sarah Coyle McCabe.
Mr. McCabe was employed for the last 10 years at the Sanco
Piece Dye Works, Phillipsburg, as a foreman in the greige department.
His wife, the former Teresa Smith, died in 1918.
He was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Easton,
the Living Rosary of the Church; the Jasksonian Democratic
Association, Easton, and Easton Fleas Club.
Surviving are one son, Maj. John T. McCabe, of Syracuse, N.Y.;
a sister, Miss Sadie V. McCabe, of Easton; a brother J. Terrence
McCabe, also of Easton, and a grandson, Kevin McCabe, there
also are several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted on Monday at 9:15 a.m. from
the Doyle Solemn Requiem High Mass will be celebrated at 10
a.m. in St. Bernard’s Church, Easton.
