Mrs. J. J. Savitz, 83, Widow of Educator
Mrs. Stella K. Savitz, 83, widow of Dr. Jerohn J. Savitz, retired
president of the New Jersey State Teachers College at Glassboro,
N.J. died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert
C. Thomson, of Lawrence Avenue, Westfield, N.J.
Mrs. Savitz, a native of Martins Creek, lived in Slatington
from 1889 to 1896 while her husband served as supervising principal
of the schools there. From 1901 to 1917 she resided in Westfield
where her husband held a similar position in the school system.
Her husband, who died six weeks ago, also was at one time
superintendent of schools in Union County, New Jersey. In 1943,
after he retired as president of the state teachers college,
Mrs. Savitz and her hsband retired to Westfield to live.
Surviving in addition to her daughter, are a son, Russell
J. Savitz, of Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. |
