Mrs. Ethel I. Helms, 88, of Hellertown R.1, Lower Saucon Township,
died Saturday in St. Luke's Hospital. She was the widow of William
F. Helms.
She was an art teacher at Easton Area High School and at elementary
schools in Easton and Lower Saucon Township for many years.
A self-employed horticulturist, she sold flowers from her home until
her death.
Born in Williams Township, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and
Mary (Steckel) Hineline.
Historian of Lower Saucon Township, Mrs. Helms also was chairman of
Lower Saucon Township bicentennial committee and designed commemorative
plates for the celebration.
In 1972, she built a ceramic model of the Sun Inn, Bethlehem, for
the steering committee on Preservation of the Sun Inn.
She was president of Lafayette chapter, Grand Army Republicans.
Surviving are two sons, Glen L. and William F. Jr., and a daughter,
Doris E., all at home, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Dutt of Woodbridge,
Conn.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Heintzelman Funeral Home,
326 Main St., Hellertown. Calling hours will be 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
