Woman Died At Meeting
Mrs. Dean Succumbed at Session of Eastern Star, In Belvidere
Mrs. Rachel Dean, of Water street, Belvidere, died suddenly at
10:45 last night in the Masonic Hall, Belvidere, following the
exercise in connection with the initiation of a class of candidates
into Warren Chapter, No. 128, Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs.
Dean was one of the candidates, and following her initiation
the members of the order were congratulating her when she suddenly
became unconscious. Dr. G. W. Cummins, who was present, rendered
treatment but his efforts to revive her proved unsuccessful.
She was 54 years of age.
Deceased was born near Hope and was a daughter of the late
John and Elizabeth Beam. She had been a resident of Belvidere
about two years, and was a member of the Butzville Methodist
Church. She was also a member of the Women's Social Club of
the Belvidere Methodist Episcopal church.
Mrs. Dean is survived by her husband, David Dean; two sisters,
Mrs. Joseph Kitchen and Mrs. John Bowne, both of Washington,
and three brothers George Beam, of Washington; John Beam, of
Belvidere, and Amos Beam of Newark.
The funeral will be held from her late home on Monday afternoon,
and Rev. William C. James, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal
church, of Belvidere, will officiate, Interment will be made
in the Belvidere cemetery.
