John S. Walter, 64, Found Dead in Barn
John S. Walter, 64, a farmer in Bushkill Township, Nazareth R.D. 3,
for 31 years was found dead yesterday at 5;15 in a barn on his property,
by his wife, Mrs. Birdie Lieberman Walter. Dr. John A Fraunfelder pronounced
him dead and notified Dr. D.F. Bachman, Northampton County coroner,
who issued a certificate of suicide by hanging.
Mr. Walter was born Sept 3, 1881, in Plainfield township, a son of
the late James and Ellen Saylor Walter, and was assistant road supervisor
of Bushkill township. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Belfast;
Aluta Lodge No. 488, I.O.O.F, and Camp 20, Sons of Veterans, Nazareth.
He is survived by his wife and three sons, Howard J., of Bangor R.D.
1; Elwood J., of Nazareth R.D. 3, and Raymond L, at home, recently
discharged from the armed forces; one granddaughter, one sister, Mrs.
C. Johnson of Easton; three brothers, David Walter, of Nazareth R.D.
3; Francis Walter of Easton R.D. 2 and Harrison Walter, of Nazareth.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Schmidt home,
Wind Gap, with the Rev. L.B. Klick, officiating. Interment will be
in Belfast Union cemetery.
