Death of Dr. S. P. Uhler
College Hill Physician Passes Away at Home Sunday Morning
Dr . Sydenham Peter Uhler, a well-known Easton Physician, died on Sunday morning at 8 o’clock at this home, No. 138 Cattell Street, of Liver trouble, after an illness of five months. He was in the 67th year of his age.
Dr. Uhler was born in Forks Township, this county, and was a son of the late Peter and Sophia Uhler. He received his education in the township schools and at Kutztown Normal School After graduating from Kutztown Normal, he took a special course in chemistry at Lafayette College and then entered Jefferson medical College, Philadelphia, from which institution he was graduated in 188-. He practiced his profession ever since that time in Easton and for a number of years conducted a rug store at March and Cattell streets, College. Hill.
During the term of Horace Lehr as mayor of this city, Dr. Uhler was president of the Board of Health. He also served as poor physician in Forks Township and part of Easton for a number of years. He was a member of the Medical Society of Northampton County.
Deceased is survived by his widow, who is formerly, Miss Rose, M. Smith, of Upper Mt. Bethel, and by one son, Sayre P. Uhler, of Wilmington, Delaware. He also leaves one brother, Valentine Uhler, of Forks Township and two sisters, Miss Sarah A. Uhler and Miss Lucinda R. Uhler, of Forks Township and Mrs. Emma Keim, widow of Reuben Keim, of College Hill.
Dr. Uhler was a member of Easton Lodge, No. 152, F. and A.M.; Easton, Forest, No. 35, Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Caldwell Consistory, 32nd Degree Masons, Bloomsburg, Pa.; Rajah Temple, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Reading and the Lutheran Congregation of Forks Church.
For the past 25 years, Dr. Uhler was medical examiner for the Colonial Life Insurance Company in this city. |
