Carl Race, farm owner, headed historic society
Carl S. Race Sr., 82, of Belcher Road, Blairstown, died Sunday in Newton Memorial Hospital.
He was employed by the State of new Jersey for 32 years as superintendent of Farms for New Jersey institutions, Trenton before retiring in 1951. He as owner of Race’s Farm, Blairstown since his retirement.
Born in Oxford, he was a son of the late Henry and Alice Spangenberg Race. He lived in Trenton for many years before moving to Blairstown in 1951.
Mr. Race was a founding member and first president of Hope Historical Society; and a pst member of Warren County Board of Agriculture.
Surviving are his wife, the former Flora Shew; a son, Carl Jr. of Blairstown; two daughters, Ellen MacDonald, Foster, Rhode Island and Mrs. Lois Eckler, Houghton N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Newbaker Funeral Home, Blairstown. Interment will be in Hazen Cemetery, White township, N.J. |
