H. Arthur Race, Tax Collector In White Township
H. Arthur Race, 67, White Township, N.J., treasurer and tax collector, died yesterday afternoon in Warren Hospital where he was a patient two weeks.
He resided along the Hazen-Oxford road, Belvidere R.D.
Mr. Race was a retired farmer. Born in Oxford Township, a son of the late Henry and Alice Spangenberg Race, he lived in the Belvidere R.D. area all his life.
He was custodian of the White Township Board of Education where he was a member 34 years. He served as tax collector the last 24 years and was a trustee and past treasurer of Hazen Cemetery.
He was a member of elder of the Hazen Presbyterian Church and was church treasurer since 1927. He was a past president of Warren County United Milk Producers and a trustee of the New Jersey United Milk Producers.
Mr. Race was a member of the Mission Committee of Newton Presbytery. A member of Warren County Board of Agriculture Society, and the New Jersey Archaeological Society and was first vice president of the White Township Historical Society. Interested in Indian Lore, he frequently spoke and showed slides on that subject.
Mr. Race and his wife, the former Mable Cummings, observed their 45 th wedding anniversary June 17.
Survivors include two daughters, *****, Irvine, Calif, and *****, Ingle wood Calif.; a son, ***** Belvidere R.D. two brothers, Paul S., Oxford R.D. and Carl S. Sr., Blairstown, N.M, and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hazen Presbyterian Church, interment will be in Hazen Cemetery, Arrangements were made by the MacFadden Funeral Home, Belvidere.
