Van C. Kemmerer, 86, Ran Restaurants Here
Van C. Kemmerer, 86, who retired in 1930 after operating several
restaurants at various locations in downtown Easton, died last
night at 8 o’clock in Easton Hospital.
Mr. Kemmerer’s home was at 241 Ferry street, He had
been in failing health for some time and had been hospitalized
since march 29.
He had been in the restaurant business for more than 20 years
at the time of his retirement. He operated the American Restaurant
on Northampton Street, between Fourth and Fifth streetsfor
several years and his last location was on North Fourth Street.
Mr. Kemmerer was born in Hecktown on Aug. 19, 1864, a son
of the late William and Elizabeth Schug Kemmerer. In his early
life he operated a cigar store on college Hill and later conducted
a livery stable. He had spent nearly all his life in Easton.
He was of the Lutheran faith and formerly a member of the
Elks lodge. His only immediate survivor is a sister, Mrs. Fred
Vollmer, of Easton. |
