Retired LCDR Arthur A. Heavener, 89, of Shell Knob, passed away on March 2, 2009, in his home.
He was a WWII Veteran, serving on the USS LST 1059 in the Pacific in 1945. He graduated from Lehigh University in 1950 and retired from active status Navy Reserves in 1979.
He made his living as an aeronautical and mechanical engineer. He retired in 1979 from the Federal Aviation Agency in Pomona, N.J., as an instrument engineer.
He was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Lions Club, VFW Post 2203, NAFEC and MOARK Chapter of the Missouri Officers Association of America.
Survivors include: his children, Stephen Heavener, Geri Hahn and Lisa Grahame and their families whom all reside on the east coast; Mike and Nancy Iob, of Arizona; Jack and Roxanne Singletary, of Missouri; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Pastor Chris Williams will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be at Lake Park Memorial Gardens, Shell Knob.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob.
