C. Oscar Godley, Retired Postal Clerk, Dies At 71
Was in Federal Employ At Easton Post Office For 25 Years
C. Oscar Godley, 71 years old, of 1233 Washington street, a retired
clerk at the Easton Post office, died at 5:45 yesterday afternoon at
Bett's Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday for medical
treatment.
Mr. Godley was born in South Easton on May 15, 1871, a son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Godley. He attended South Easton public
schools and for 14 years was employed as a clerk in the Bush & Bull
Department Store, this city. On July 1, 1901, he was appointed as a
clerk in the Easton post office by the late Clarence N. Andrews, who
was then postmaster and was later made a special clerk. He was retired
on May 31, 1936. He was a member of Easton Brach No. 83, United National
Association of Post office Clerks and when the convention of the Pennsylvania
Brach was held in Easton in July, 1925, he was chairman of the reception
committee.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lillie Raudenbush Godley, formerly
of Bangor; two brothers, Raymond Godley, of Phoenix, Ariz, and John
Godley of Bloomfield, N.J; one sister, Mrs. Frank Coppock, of 830 Centre
Street, Easton; also a niece, Mrs. Ruth Mutchler, wife of Walter Mutchler,
of Sherbrooke, Canada.
He was a member of the First Evangelical Congregation Church, North
Tenth Street.
