Franklin Cole, Native of Easton, Dies in Hospital.
Franklin Cole, of 716 Seventh Avenue, Bethlehem, a native of Easton
and for many years connected with the Bush & Bull Corporation,
died early this morning at the Sacred Heart Hosptial, Allentown, after
a brief illness.
He was born in Easton, a son of the late Stephen and Josephine Frankenfield
Cole. He attended Easton public schools and since early youth had been
employed by the Bush & Bull Corporation at the Easton store and
of late years as general manager of the Bethlehem store. He formerly
lived at 1010 Berwich street, this city.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Cole,; two daughters,
Mrs. Walter H. Mack, Bethlehem; Mrs. Robert A. G. Earich, Jr. Zanesvile,
Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Daniel E. Ritter, Allentown; two brothers, George
F. Cole, Elmira, N.Y. and John S. Cole, 909 Northampton Street, this
city, supervising principal of the Palmer Townshp Schools.
Mr. Cole was a charter member of Company E. Eleventh Regiment Provisioal
Guard of Pennsylvania, the original company 9of the Easton City Guard,
Mustered in on July 12, 1898. This company was later transferred to
the 13th Regiment and was know as Company I, Pennsylvania National
Guard. He was for many years a member of the company and received serval
promotions.
He was a member of North Side Presbyterian Church, Bethlehem, Bethlehem
Eagles, Odd Fellows and Elks, the Broad and Main Street Business Men's
Association, all of the Bethlehem Masonic bodies, the Homrary First
defenders and a retired member of the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce.
The funeral will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. with services at the
Grim Funeral Home, 917 West Broad Street, Bethlehem and interment in
family plot in Hay's Cemtery, South Side, this city.
Final Tribures Paid to Franklin Cole
Many relatives and friends and empoloyees of the Bush & Bull Deparment
Store, Bethlehem., with which he was affiliated for more than 50 years,
visted the Lena E. Grim Funeral Home, 817 West Broad steet, Bethlehem
last evening and paid tribute to Franklin Cole, general manager of
the store who died Wednesday at the sacred Heart Hosptial, Allentown.
Mr. Cole, who was 68 years old resided at 716 Seventh savenue, Bethlehem.
The group included members of the various civic and fraternal organizations
with which he was connected also city officials and draft vorads. He
was chairman of Bethlehem Selective Service Board No. 3.
The Rev. Roger Enloe pastor of the North Side Prssbyterian Church,
Bethlehem, of which congregation Mr. Cole was a member officiated at
services at 1 o'clock this afternoon at the Grim home. Interment was
made in the family plot in Hay's Cemetery this city. |
