The relatives and friends of Miss Emma L. Cole, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Stephen P. Cole, of South Seventh street will be pained to learn
of her death which occurred last Saturday evening at 10 o'clock. About
nine weeks ago she was attacked by a violent hemorrhage of the lungs.
At first she rallied from the severe shock to her system and continued
to improve, until she was able to walk about. But what was feared as
the usual result from such an attack, came to pass and the inevitable
end was only a question of time: for about two weeks afterwards, she
lingered and though during the last few days she suffered considerable,
her last moments were calm and peaceful. During all her illness she
was cheerful and bore her affection with the greatest patience. Miss
Cole has a host of friends and was well liked by all who knew her.
She was not only an attractive young woman, but accomplished and talented
as well. She was a graduate of the Easton high school and a musician
of marked ability. She sang in the choirs of St. Paul's and St. John's
Lutheran churches, and was preparing a solo for Easter at the time
she was first stricken. AT a most pleasant gathering of friends and
relatives at her home last January Mrs. Cole had announced the engagement
of her daughter to Joseph R. Miller, of Tunkhannock, Pa., a civil and
mining engineer, and former student of Lafayette college. This sudden
loss of their eldest child, the one nearest and dearest to their hearts,
is a sever blow to the parents. She would have been twenty one years
old on the 17 th of next August, and had all bright possibilities of
the future before her. She is survived by two brothers, George and
Frank Cole, and one sister, Miss Jennie Cole, of this city. |
