Roy E. Zellers is Dead
Easton City Engineer Since '51 Stricken Fatally At Cabin Near
Stroudsburg
Roy E. Zellers, Easton city engineer, was stricken fatally
shortly before noon today at his cabin at Analomink, north
of Stroudsburg.
Mr. Zellers reportedly was checking a water pump there. He
was accompanied by William Tomino, Easton city councilman-elect.
Mr. Zellers resided at 808 Ferry St.
He was 71.
Mr. Zellers was appointed city engineer on June 12, 1951.
He succeeded Victor W. Anckaitis. He served two terms on the
Easton City Council, from 1936 to 1944.
He held the post of director of parks and public property
from 1936 to 1946.
Mr. Zellers was graduated from Easton High School. He played
football there and was a member of the team that played the
first football game between Easton and Phillipsburg.
He was a past exalted ruler of the Easton Elks.
He formerly was a contractor in the firm of Freeman & Zellers.
In the 1930's he was an official in the WPA program in the
Easton area.
Born in Williams Township, he was a son of the late Frank
D. and Rebecca Leah Steckel Zellers. He was married to the
former May C. Joline.
After graduating from high school, he was employed in the
engineering department of the Lehigh Valley Railroad. During
World War I he was employed in a Long Island shipyard. He later
worked in the engineering department at Binney & Smith,
Inc.
Surviving besides his widow are a son, a brother, Dr. Harry
C. Zellers, Easton Dentist; a sister, Miss Helen Zellers, Easton,
and four grandchildren. |
