Frank D. F. Walters Dies
Former Easton School Director, 76, Was Retired Draftsman At
Ingersoll-Rand
Frank D. F. Walters, 76, a former member of the Easton School
Board, died last night in Easton Hospital.
Mr.Walters home was at 255 W. Lincoln St. He had been a patient
in the hospital since July 31.
Mr. Walters served two partial terms and one full term on
the School board.
He was a retired employee of the Ingersoll-Rand Co.
In addition, he served for about a year as Northampton County
sealer of weights and measures, and was chief engineer at Gracedale,
the Northampton County home, for two years.
As a young man Mr. Walters learned the molding and machinist
trades, then studied mechanical engineering. He worked in the
cement industry until 1919, when he set up a mechanical dental
laboratory. He also was at one time a salesman for hearing
aids.
Mr. Walters began his service on the School Board in August
1942, when he was appointed to fill a vacancy. He served until
December 1943. He was a candidate for a full term in the 1943
election, but was defeated.
In May 1947, he rturned tothe board, again to fill a vacancy.
The following November he was elected to a full term of six
years. He served until 1953.
A republician, he sought public office two other occasions,
running unsuccessfully for the Easton City Council and for
Northamton County clerk of quarter sessions. He was named Northampton
County sealer of weight and measures in 1952, he was chief
engineer at Gracedale for two years until 1955.
Mr. Walters was a draftsman in the engineering department
of Ingersoll-Rand form 1941 to 1952. He supervised apprentice
draftsmen at intervals from then until October 1956.
Born in Easton Jan. 4, 1881, he was a son of the late Morris
J. and Maria M. Gruver Walters. He resided in Easton all his
life except for a period when he worked in the West for a cement
company.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, South Side;
Dallas Lodge 396, F&AM; Royal Arch Chapter 173, Hugh de
Payens Commander, Knights Templar, and the Easton Young Republican
Club.
Mr. Walters was married twice, His first wife was the late
Mabel Merwarth Walters. His second wife, the former Isabell
C. Sitgreaves, survives.
Also surviving are two brothers, Harvey W. H. Walters, Phillipsburg,
and Lee E. Walters, Allentown, and three sisters, Miss Minnie
E. Walters, Easton, Miss Zelda A. Walters, Morrsitown, N.J.
and Anah V., wife of Arthur Sickels, Providence, R.I.
The funeral will be held at the Strunk Funeral Home on Saturday
at 2 p.m. |
