Burns Kill Woman in Wilson
Miss Rosa Elizabeth Steckel, 80, of 2023 Ealer Ave., Wilson,
died yesterday in Easton Hospital of burns suffered at her
home Saturday night.
Miss Steckel's death was ruled accidental by Northampton County
Coroner Joseph Reichel.
Burns received by Miss Steckel over 75 per cent of her body
were the cause of death the coroner reported.
According to Wilson Fire chief Guy Tomaino, Miss Steckel,

Tomaino theorized that Miss Steckel, apparently unaware that
her sweater was burning went into the living room and sat in
a chair, which ignited.
When she realized that the fire was spreading, Chief Tomaino
said, Miss Steckel unsuccessfully tried to remove her clothing,
she phone a neighbor, she called the fire department.
The firemen quickly put out the fire and took Miss Steckel
to the hospital.
Chief Tomaino said the fire damage to the house was slight
but he said there was some smoke damage on the first and second
floors.
Miss Steckel was born in Raubsville, Feb 1, 1892, a daughter
of the late Theophilus and Elizabeth Gruver Steckel.
She worked at the Dixie Cup Division of American Can Co.,
Wilson, for a number of years before retiring several years
ago.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, Raubsville
and the P.O. of A.
There are no immediate survivors.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Clements
Funeral home, Easton. Interment will be in the Raubsville Cemetery. |
