Jacob G. Seip is Dead at 53
Director of Warren County Freeholders Board Was Retired Beverage
Sales Executive.
Jacob G. Seip, a member of Warren County Board of Freeholders
since 1944 and director of the board since 1952, died at 6:50
a.m. today at Warren Hospital, to which he was admitted Monday.
He would have observed his 54th birthday anniversary on Monday.
Mr. Seip resided at 603 St. James Ave. Parkside.
Long active in Republican politics in Warren County, Mr. Seip
served a term as Warren County Coroner before being elected
freeholder in 1944. He first was elected director of the board
in 1947 and held the position thourgh 1949.
He was born in Easton on October 25, 1900, a son of the late
Harry and Belle Garren Seip. He was a resident of Warren County
for about 35 years.
He operated a restaurant business in Washington for two years
and formerly was associated with the Spring-Crest Beverage
Co., of Phillipsburg, until his retirement a few years ago.
Employed by the company for 12 years, he was sales manager
upon his retirement.
At the time of his death he was beginning his 26th year as
chairman of the Phillispburg Elks Crippled Kiddies Committee.
The committee conducted a clinic for crippled children and
also distributed Christmas baskets annually to needy families
in Warren County. He formerly, was a trustee of the lodge and
club manager for about 12 years.
He was a member of Warren County Welfare Board, a director
of Warren County Dental health association, and honorary peresident
of the Interstate Blind Association.
Mr. Seip was associate vice chairman of the Warren County
Chapter, American Cancer Society, and a member of the New Jersey
Tuberculosis League and the Phillipsburg Lions Club. In 1953
he was named chairman of the Lions district embracing clubs
at Phillipsburg, Alpha, Milford, Frenchtown and Flemington.
He was anvorganizer of the Phillipsburg Quarterback Club.
Mr. Seip was educated at public schools in Easton, at Nazareth
Hall Military Academy and at Churchman Business College. He
was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Easton.
In failing health for nearly a year he last was present at
a meeting of the freeholders in April. He underwent surgery
in a Philadelphia hospital last winter and since returning
to his home had been detained briefly on several occasion at
Warren Hospital for treatment and observation.
Mr. Seip is survived by his widow, the former, Mrs. Clara
I. Bishop Marsteller, at home; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Wilbur
Price, of Mount Bethel, and Mrs. Aaron Vanderveer, of Easton;
a brother, Raymond Seip of Frenchtown and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 P.m. at the Hagerty
Colonial Home, Phillispburg.
The Phillipsburg Elks Lodge will conduct a servcie for Mr.
Seip at the Hagerty funeral home Sunday at 8:30 p.m. |
