Earl T. Schaeffer, outstanding bowler
Earl T. Schaeffer, inducted in the Reading Bowling Association
Hall of Fame last year, died Wednesday at 5:20 p.m. in Community
General Hosptial, where he had been a patient since Dec. 24.
Schaeffer, 80, of 23 Greenwich St., Kutztown, first started
bowling at the Lyons Fire Company lanes in 1954. He had one
perfect game and 17 series of 700 or higher. His best was 757.
In the annual RBA tournaments, he was on the winning team
in 1963, won a doubles title in 1970 and won the singles championship
with a 710 in 1971.
Scheaffer had rolled in 43 American Bowling Congrees tournaments
and later participated in the Reading Bowling Association Senior
Tournament.
Since he started competing in 1982, he had won sigles titles
twice, teamed to win a doubles title and posted three all-events
championships in various age groups.
Born in Kutztown, he was a son of the late William B. and
Margaret (Kreidler) Schaeffer.
Schaeffer was employed for more than 30 years as a blacksmith
by the former Reading Co., retiring in 1979.
Schaeffer was a member of the American Bowling Congress 700
Club.
Surviving are a brother Paul K., Hyde Park; and several nieces
and nephews.
Gravesidie services will be Saturday morning in Zion (Moselem)
Cemetery, Richmond Township. The ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown,
is in charge of arrangments. |
