Edward W.L. Rush -- sea captain, diver
Edward W.L. Rush, 70, of Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Phillipsburg,
died June 28 in Albuquerque Veterans Administration Medical
Center. He worked as an abattoirist with Highlube's and Rush's
in the area. A sea captain and scuba instructor, he was president
of Teach/Tour Diving Co., with Raymond Morrow and associates
of Nazareth which was also located in British Honduras in Central
America. He helped establish and operate five diving resorts
in the Caribbean. He was also a photographer published in National
Geographic magazine.
Born Nov. 28, 1928, in Pohatcong Township,
he was a son of the late Edward O. and Jessie Cruickshank
Rush. He served in the Army Intelligence at Vint Hill Farms
Va., in 1949 and in Korea in 1950-51. He received awards in
New Mexico and New Jersey for pistol and rifle shooting. He
was a 1947 graduate of Phillipsburg High School.
He was a member
of St. James Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg.
He is survived
by a daughter, a sister,
Shirlee Voorhees of Stewartsville; a niece; and caregivers,
Mr. and Mrs. John Pompa, of Albuquerque.
Burial took place
at the National Veterans Cemetery in Santa Fe. The Direct
Funeral Home, 2919 Fourth St., Albuquerque, was in charge of
arrangements. The family requests memorials to American Heart
