Willis B. Kelchner, Lived in Bethlehem
Willis Benjamin "Bill" Kelchner, 70, of Brookings, Ore., died June 27.
A retired Navy officer, he spent 22 y3ars in the service serving as a signalman on an aircraft carrier. After re-enlistiment, he taught mathematics at Great Lakes, Mich., and Vallejo, Calif.
He was active in Boy Scouting and started the first troop - No. 208 - in Terra Linda.
After retiring, he had a career in electronics at Taktronix and moved to Beaverton, Ore.
Born April 10, 1927, in Fountain Hill, he was a son of the late Harley Benjamin and Eva Mae Ebner Kelchner. He formerly lived in Bethlhem and attended Liberty High School.
He enjoyed playing bridge and was a skilled wood carver repairing carousel horses at the Western Forestry Center in Portland, Ore. He also enjoyed fishing, Hiking and making kayaks.
He is survived by a son, ****; a daughter, *****; four brothers, Charles in Georgia, Ned of Hellertown, Harley of Lansdale, PA, and Burce in Michigan; and two sisters, Ethel Young of Palmer Township and Gladys Schadler in Florida.
A brother Raymond and sister Lois Lohrman died earlier.
A memorial service was held in Brookings, where he lived the past 10 years.
The Scantlin Mortuary, 2 Ross Road, Brookings, was in charge of arrangements. |
