Harley E. Kelchner
Harley Ebner Kelchner, 85, a resident of Hatfield Township for more than 40 years, entered into rest at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on March 19, 2005. He and his wife, Anna Rose (Flok) Kelchner, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 1, 2004.
Born in Bethlehem on January 20, 1920, he was the son of the late Harley Benjamin and Eva Mae (Ebner) Kelchner. Graduating from Liberty High School, Bethlehem, in 1936, he went on to learn the machinist trade at Bethlehem Steel Corp. until he enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving during World War II. He then received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Lehigh University in 1947. He became a shop teacher for Case Institute of Technology, Cleveland, Ohio, and then managed the machine shop of Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. Later, he was an engineer for Burroughs Corporation, Paoli, and then became the founder of his own engineering and design company from 1960 until retiring in 1990. HarlNovember 26, 2011usiastic gardener, beekeeper, a writer of songs and poetry, a substitute teacher, and played and taught the harmonica at various institutions in the area. He became a baptized member of Jehovahs Witnesses in 1953. He served as an elder in Fairview Village, Conshohocken, and Lansdale congregations. He was a very zealous and active proclaimer of Gods Kingdom.
Survivors: Wife; daughters, ****, wife of ***** of Perkiomenville, *****, wife of **** of Quakertown, ****, wife of ***** of Lansdale, *****, wife of ***** pf Portland, Oregon; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sister, Ethel M. Young of Allentown; brothers, Ned S. Kelchner of Hellertown, Bruce A. Kelchner of Port Huron, Michigan; 37 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Gladys A. Schadler and Lois V. Lohrman, and brothers, Charles M. Kelchner, Willis B. Kelchner and Raymond O. Kelchner.
Services: relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service in Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, 1037 Spur Rd., Souderton, on Saturday, March 26, at 3 p.m. Arrangements, Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale. |
