Mrs. A. L. Kotz Dies Suddenly in Florida
She and Dr. Kotz Had Gone to Federal Point to Spend Winter
Mrs. Susan C. Kotz, wife of Dr. A. L. Kotz, of High and Reeder
Streets, College Hill, died suddenly at 8:20 last night of
heart trouble, at Federal Point, Florida, to which place she
and her husband had gone two weeks ago to remain during the
winter. A large circle of friends here and in Bethlehem is
learning of her death with great sorrow.
Dr. and Mrs. Kotz were driven to Florida by Oscar Kessler,
of Brodhead Street, and the trip was made without haste. They
reached there on Satruday , January 2, Mrs. Kotz stood the
journey very well. She had not been in the best of health,
but showed no effects of the long trip, and was apparently
being benefited by the new surroundings.
Their residence here had been closed for the season, but telegrams
from Dr. Kotz, directed tha it be reopen at once. He started
this morning for home, bringing the body of his wife with him.
Mrs. Kotz was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Christiana
A. Hay of this city. She was a sister of Thomas A. L. Hay,
of Easton, prothonotary of Northampton county, and her death
leaves him the only survivor of his father's family. Mrs. Kotz
was a member of George Taylor Chapter, Daughters of the American
Revolution, of the Northamtpon County Historical Society, and
of the Brainerd Presbyterian church. During the World War she
took a great interest in Red Cross Work, being active in the
Easton Chapter. When the call for surgical dressings came,
she was made supervisor of the department and devoted so much
time to it that her health was impaired and she was forced
to resign from these activities, though her interest was unaflayed.
While her health had not been good for some time she maintained
interest in civic activities as far as possible.
