Finds Mother Dead
Aged Mrs. Meixel Expired While Doing her Usual Light Work
Mrs. Margaret Ann Meixell, widow of the late Barnet Meixell, fell
dead at 7:30 o’clock this morning at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Mary Alice Doughty, 1104 Butler Street, of heart failure. Although
Mrs. Mexell was in the 80th year of her age, she was able to be about
the house daily. She arose as usual and was apparently in good health.
As was her custom, in fair weather, she went to the front of the house
to seep the pavement. When she did not return in her usual time her
daughter went to look for her and was shocked to find her mother lying
on the face along the side entrance of the house. She summed aid and
a physician was called, but Mrs. Meixell was dead.
Deceased was a native of Upper Mt. Bethel Township, and for a time
resided in Monroe county. For many years she made her home in this
city. Her husband was stricken with fever while fighting in the Union
army in 1863 and died. Besides Mrs. Doughty, Mrs. Miexell is survived
by four sons, William and Edwin Meixell, of this city, Jeremiah Meixell,
of Martin’s Creek and Abram T. Meixell of West Easton. A brother,
James Gruver of near Bushkill Park, and a sister, Mrs. Amanda Correll,
of Nazareth, also survive her. She was a member of Arndt’s Reformed
church.
