Mrs. Luther Kinney, Active Church Worker, Was 70 Years Old
Mrs. Carrie Elizabeth Kinney, 70, of 136 Bullman Street, Phillipsburg,
an active church worker for many years, died yesterday at 2:55
p.m. in Warren Hospital. In ill health only a brief time, Mrs.
Kinney had been hospitalized since March 3.
Mrs. Kinney was the wife of Luther Kinney , with whom she
would have observed her 50th wedding anniversary next fall.
She was for many years a member of Westminster Presbyterian
Church, Phillipsburg, and took an active part in many of the
affairs of the church. She was a member and former president
of the industrial Society, a member of the Missionary Society
and ladies Bible Class, and formerly taught a class in the
Sunday school.
Mrs. Kinney also was a member of the Phillipsburg chapter,
American Red Cross, and at one time served on the society’s
executive committee. During both World Wars, She served on
various committees of the Red Cross engaged in making surgical
dressing. She also was a member of the W.C.T.U.
Born Sept 10, 1879 in Plainfield Township, Northampton county,
she was a daughter of the late Jeremiah and Diana Ackerman
Gruver. Mrs. Kinney had made her home in Philipsburg for 49
years.
Surviving in addition to her husband, is a brother, Robert
Gruver, of Whitehouse Station, N.J. |
