Clarence Garis, former Postal Official, Dies
Clarence D. Garis, of Broadway, former postmaster in Phillipsburg,
died yesterday in Trenton. He was 79.
Mr. Garis served as postmaster in Phillipsburg from 1913 to
1921. He served two terms as Warren County sheriff after serving
as postmaster.
Mr. Garis lived at 12 Brainard St., Phillipsburg, for 41 years.
before moving to Broadway in 1947. Born in Philadelphia, he
was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Garis. He lived
in Easton and Phillispburg during his boyhood, His wife was
the late Lucy Kemmerer Garis.
He was a member of the Phillipburg Lodge 295, Benevolent and
protective Order of Elks,. He was of the Mthodist faith.
Surviving are a daugher, a brother, William, Catskill, N.Y.;
a sister, Mrs Maude Price, Stewartsville, and a grandson..
Funeral arrangment are being made by the Hagerty Colonial
