PAUL E. DIMMIG, 78, FIRST POLICE CHIEF OF L. SAUCON TWP.
Paul E. Dimmig, 78, of Reading Road, Bethlehem R.4, the first
police chief of Lower Saucon Township died Wednesday in St.
Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabeth C. (Neibauer)
Dimmig. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary in June.
Dimmig worked for Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 41 years before
retiring in 1973 as a heat treater in the central tool division.
He also was a self- employed well driller in the area for 16
years.
He was Lower Saucon police chief, 1939-44. Under his direction,
a volunteer police force was formed during World War II to
serve the four districts of the township, and grew from 28
members to 64 by 1942.
Born in Bingen, he was a son of the late Charles and Tillie
(Fluck) Dimmig Meilinger.
He was a member of New Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church,
Bethlehem R.4.
He served in the Navy during the 1930s.
Surviving with his widow are a son, a daughter a brother,
George Meilinger of Hellertown; two sisters, Mrs. James Kneiss
of Hellertown and Mrs. Elizabeth Clewell of Allentown, and
two grandsons.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Downing Funeral
Home, 835 Broadway, Fountain Hill. A calling hour will precede
the services. |
