Donald Carpenter, Ex-Head of I-R's West Easton Plant
Doanld V. Carpenter, 64, of 401 New Bruswick Ave. in Shimer
Manor, Pohatcong Township, N.J., died Monday at Warren Hospital
shortly after admission.
He had been plant manager of the Ingersoll-Rand Co. West Easton
plant for 30 years. From 1974 until his disability retirement
in 1981, he was purchasing agent for the Cameron Pump Division
of Ingersoll-Rand in Phillipsburg.
He joined the company in 1941 as an assembler and fabricator
at the West Easton plant. Following three years of service
in the Marine Corps, he returned in 1947 and served successively
as cutting and preparation foreman, assembly foreman and manger
of production.
Born Oct 24, 1923, in Phillispburg, he was a son of the late
Harry and Elzabeth Knoble Carpenter. Her resided in the area
all his life.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Phillipsburg,
and Bethlehem Lodge 140, F&AM, of Phillipsburg.
Mr. Carpenter was a 1941 graduate of Phillipsburg High School
where he served as captain of the football team in his senior
year. He also attended Lafayette College.
He served as a sergeant in the First Marine Division during
World War II in the Pacific Theather.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mae S. Melick,; two sons,
a daughter, and four granchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Rupell Funeral
Home in Phillipsburg. Interment will be in St. James Lutheran
Cemetery in Greenwich Townshp, N.J. |
