Former Local Man Died in West Orange
George B. Abbott Was Well Known in Athletic Circles Here
George Barnet Abbott, 44 year old, a native of Easton, died at 1:30 a.m. today at his home, 6 Winding Place, West Orange, after several months’ illness.
For 25 years Mr. Abbott was employed by the Ingersoll-Rand Company the last 15 in the New York Office.
It was the second death in the Abbott family within six weeks, his mother died in March after suffering a broken hip while visiting at the Abbott home in West Orange.
Mr. Abbott was a member of Easton Lodge, No. 152, F. & A.M> Easton Forest, No. 35, Tall Cedars of Lebanon and a deacon in the Christ Reformed Church Newark, where he resided for several years after going to New York Office of Ingersoll-Rand.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Blanche Bitzer Abbott, his father, U. Grant Abbot, retired assistant superintendent of mails of Easton post office, a brother, William Abbott, of Rockville Centre, L.I. and a sister, Mrs. H. Hamilton Weber, of Summit.
Abbott was well know in Easton where for many years he was a popular semi-professional athlete playing first base for the Easton A.A. , and active in the Sunshiners, an organization composed of persons interested in athletics played in the vicinity of the side of the present Easton Senior High School.
His body will be brought to Easton for funeral services and interment. |
