Earl O. Heist, 85, of Breinigsville, died August 2 in Lehigh Center, Low er Macungie Township. He was the husband of Ellen (Ruth) Heist. They we re married 35 years in April. Born in Wescosville, he was a son of the la te Oliver G. and Beulah F. (Reichard) Heist. He was a stock room worker f or the former Allentown works of Western Electric for more than 20 years r etiring in 1985. He was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Jerusal em Western Salisbury Union Church, Allentown. He was an Army veteran of Wo rld War II. He held memberships in Macungie and Fullerton fire companies.
Survivors: Wife; sons, Donald and Dale Heist and Daniel Wright; daughter s, Barbara Lewis, Sharon Gossi, Sandra Schlicher and Rosemary Romig; broth ers, Morgan, Robert, Luke and Paul Heist; sisters, Marion Nolan, Arlene Ru th and Alice Adams; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren. He was prede ceased by two brothers and a sister.

Earl was the second son and the fourth of twelve children born to
Oliver George Heist
(30 June 1889 ? 28 February 1936) and Beulah Florence Reichard (28 Februa ry 1890 ? 3 March 1974). Earl was born on 19 July 1920 at home in Wescosvi lle, Pennsylvania, in Lower Macungie Township. He attended grade scho ol in Wescosville, after which he worked as a Truck Diver for C.Y. Shel ly Hardware Company in Allentown, Pennsylvania, until he entered the Arm y. At the time he entered the Army, Earl was married to Loretta L. Koehl er (30 December 1925 ? 8 August 1982). He was drafted into the Army as a P rivate in Allentown on 1 April 1943, and underwent basic training at Ca mp Wheeler
near Macon, Georgia, and advanced infantry training at Camp Swift near Bas trop, Texas. Both camps also served as prisoner of war camps during Wor ld War II. On 13 September 1943, Earl left for North Africa, arriving the re on 6 October 1943, where he was assigned to the 715th Engineer Depot Co mpany. He continued to serve in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theat er as a Supply Clerk throughout the remainder of World War II, including t he campaign to defeat the German Army in Italy. His unit underwent demobil ization after the war ended, and he left the theater on 26 November 1945.
He arrived back in the States on 4 December 1945 for discharge, and receiv ed his discharge seven days later as a Corporal at Fort George G. Meade, M aryland. Earl was awarded the European-African-
Middle-Eastern Theater and the World War II Victory Medals for his servic e. After his discharge, Earl returned to Wescosville where he resumed work ing as a Truck Driver for C.Y. Shelly Hardware until August 1960, wh en he moved to Santa Monica, California, where he worked for United Van Li nes. Four years later he returned to Wescosville and was self-employ ed as a carpenter until 1965, when he went to work for Western Electric Co mpany in Allentown until he retired in 1985. Earl and Loretta
divorced in 1968, at which time Earl moved to Macungie, Pennsylvania, a nd then later to Breinigsville, Pennsylvania, where he settled. Earl and L oretta had four children: Donald Earl, Barbara Ann, Dale Robert, and Shar on Marie. Earl?s second marriage was to Ellen Elizabeth Ruth (born 16 Nove mber 1920) of Lower Milford Township, Pennsylvania, in 1970. Earl di ed on 2 August 2005 in Breinigsville, and he is buried at West ern Salisbu ry Church in Allentown. Earl?s son, Dale, served in the Army
during the Vietnam War, and four of Earl?s brothers, Wilbur Richard, Morg an Reuben, Robert Ernest,
and Paul Martin also served in the Army: Wilbur and Morgan during World W ar II, Robert from 7 February 1946 to 10 August 1947, and Paul in Korea. M ay 16, 2009 Earl Oliver Heist Corporal U.S. Army
