James E. Werkheiser, Easton R.D.4, Victim In Williams Township
James Werkheiser was fatally injured in a one-car crash on Christmas
Eve not far from his home in Williams Township.
Police said that Werkheiser suffered internal injuries and
a fractured of the left thigh. He was a passenger in a car
that struck a utility pole.
Werkheiser died in Easton Hospital at 3:30 p.m. yesterday
about 17 hours after the crash.
Troopers Antonia Vancola and Michael Schott of the Easton
station reported that the victim was a passenger in a car driven
by Joseph Embardino, 24, of 543 w. Wilkes-Barre St. Embadino
was also hospitalized as a result of the accident.
The investigating troopers said the accident occurred at about
10:45 p.m. Embardino lost control of the vehicle, they said.
The car veered off the right side of the highway into a mailbox
before careening back across the road into the pole.
Troopers quoted the driver as saying he lost control when
the victim placed his foot on top of the drivers accelerator
foot.
Mr. Werkheiser was born in Uniontown, N.J, a son of George
R. and Margaret Lehr Werkheiser, who now reside in Riegelsville,
Pa. He was employed as a coil worker at the Magnetic Windings
Division of the Essex Wire Corp., Palmer Township. He resided
in the home of a brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Kunsman.
Mr. Werkheiser was of the Lutheran faith. He was member of
the Easton lawn Fire co, Nazareth; the fleas club, Easton,
and the Magnetic Windings bowling team. He had resided in the
Easton area most of his life.
Surviving, in addition to his parent, are a daughter, *****,
Easton; three sisters Mrs. Marvin Kunsman, Riegelsville, Pa.,
Mrs. Robert Kunsman, Easton R.D. 4, and Mrs. Edward Kunsman,
Easton; and five brothers, Carl, Easton; Harold, Nazareth;
Roger, Wilson, Richard, Asbury, and Robert Riegelsville.
The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Ashton
Funeral Home, Easton.
