Martin Young.
Martin Young died at 12:30 o'clock this afternoon at his home in Cedarville,
of a complication of ailments, in the 79th year of his age. He had
been ill but a few days. Deceased was a native of Northampton county,
where he resided all his life. For a number of years he followed
the occupation of a miner, working at the ore mines in Cedarville.
For the past several years he lived retired.
Mr. Young was a veteran of the Civil War, with an enviable record..
He enlisted at the outbreak of the conflict in Company D, Fifty-sixth
Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served throughout the struggle,
with the exception of the six months and four days that he was in the
hands of the Southerners serving a sentence in the Andersonville prison.
He was the proud possessor of an honorable discharge.
Deceased is survived by one son and three daughters, Mrs. John Cameron,
of the South Side; Mrs. Howard Bonstein, of Morgan Hill; Mrs. Russell
Plummer, of Cedarville, and John H. Young, of Northampton. He was a
member of St. Peter's Reformed Church South Side, and Lafayette Post,
No. 217, G. A. R. |
