Ahlert D. Wolff, 79, of 2211 Kirkland Village Circle, Bethlehem,
formerly of College Hill, Easton, died Friday, Feb. 2, in St.
Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was the husband of Cecile
(Woodring) Wolff. They were married 57 years last July.
From 1946 until retiring in 1986 he was an insurance agent
and president of Kressler, Wolff and Miller Inc., Easton, and
was chairman of the company from 1986 until his death.
He was a 1942 graduate of Lehigh University with a degree
in economics.
Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Herman D. and Elizabeth
(Kressler) Wolff.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Bethlehem, and
a former member of College Hill Presbyterian Church, where
he was a treasurer for many years, and an elder and trustee.
He was lieutenant in the Navy during World War II, and had
served on Landing Ship-Tanks in the Pacific, and was a commanding
officer on a Landing Craft-Infantry during the D-Day operation.
He was a past president of the board of Easton Hospital, where
he served for many years.
He was a life member of the Easton Kiwanis, and helped found
the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Easton.
He was on the board of the Easton National Bank and Trust
Co., and Merchants Bank, Allentown.
He was president of the Presbyterian Homes Inc., and chairman
of the building committee of Kirkland Village. He was instrumental
in the building of the Kirkland Village complex.
He was a trustee of the Hugh Moore Park Commission and a director
of the Easton Area Land Development Corp. He was a past president
of the Independent Insurance Agents of Pennsylvania, a Chartered
Property Casualty Underwriter, and active in the United Fund.
He was also a member of the Forest Lake Club, Hawley, Wayne
County; the Northampton County Country Club; Pomfret Club,
Easton; and the Union League of Philadelphia.
He was a member of the Dallas Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree
Mason.
Survivors: Wife; sons, daughter, sister, Margaret Wolff
Frame of Hawley; seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by
a son, James A.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. Thursday, First Presbyterian Church,
Bethlehem. Call 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Ashton Funeral Home,
14th and Northampton streets, Easton.
