E. D. Vogel Dead; Ill More Than Year
Bookseller and Secretary of Easton Kiwanis Club
Ellsworth D. Vogel, one of Easton's oldest active business
men and secretary of the Easton Kiwanis club since it's organization
in 1917, died at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon at this home,
118 Spring Garden Street. He was about 68 years old.
Mr. Vogel started to decline in health after the death of
his wife a year ago last January. However, he was about and
able to attend to his duties until June when his illness became
serious. Complication developed and he grew worse until his
death today.
Mr. Vogel was a native of South Easton, a son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. David Vogel. He entered the bookselling and stationery
business over 40 years ago and continued until the time of
his death. The greater part of that time he was in business
at 218 Northampton Street and a little later to the second
floor of the Lawall building where his store in now located.
He had a wide acquaintance, not only in Easton but throughout
the state and in the larger cities. He was the personal friend
of many of the larger New York publishers and knew many writers
and members of various professions.
His only major activity outside of his business was his Kiwanis
club work. He was regarded by state and national officials
as an unusually capable secretary. He was always unanimously
chosen for the secretarial post in Easton and was popular with
every member of the local club. Mr. Vogel was also a member
of St. John's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Miss Helen Vogel, at home
and Mrs. R.L.. Dunlap, of Pittsburgh, and by one sister, Mrs.
L. S. Cameron, of Philadelphia. |
