Harry Unangst, 24, Found Dead in Car
The body of Harry J. Unangst, 24, of 823 Porter St., Easton,
was found at 6:50 a.m. today in the front seat of his car
parked in an alley in the rear of homes in the 2200 block
of Forest and Butler Streets, Wilson.
Mr. Unanagst, who was married and the father of two children,
formerly served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a painter.
The body was found by an unidentified passing motorist who
call Sgt. John King and Officer Erwin Hunt, of the Wilson
police.
Fred L. Ashton, deputy Northampton County coroner, ruled
the death a suicde due to carbon monoxide poisoning. A hose
was found extended from the exhaust pipe intoa bck window
of the locked car. The moter of the car was not runing the
body was found, althought the ignition was on.
The victim's father, Harry F. Unangst, of 40 N. 9th St.,
Easton, told police his son apparently had been despondent
over marital difficulites. The younger Unangst and his wife
had been separated only a few days, police were told.
The car was parked almost directly in the rear of the home
of Mr. Unangst's parent-in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Knapp,
215 Forest St. His wife, the former Shirley Ann Knapp, and
the couple's two children had been staying with her parents
for the last few days.
Mr. Unangst was born in Easton, a son of Harry and Violet
Paulson Uanagst, both of the North Ninth street address.
He attended Easton public schools and Easton High School,
and later served about two years in the U.S. Navy.
He was employed as a painter about the last three years.
Before that he worked at the Magnetic Windings Division of
the Essex Wire Corp., and drove a taxicab for the Yellow
Cab Co.
Surviving, in addition to his widow and parents, are a daughter,
and a son, , both at home; two sisters,
and a brother, all of Easton.
The Curran Funeral Service Home is in charge of funeral
arrangements.
