Stamets, Paul G. "Smokey"
Paul G. "Smokey" Stamets, 88, of Phillipsburg, and
formerly of Alexandria Township and Milford, N.J., passed away
Sunday, November 5, 2006, in Brakely Park Care Center, Phillipsburg.
Born: In Carpentersville, N.J., he was a son of the late Earl
and Dorothy Dennis Stamets.
Personal: He was raised by his grandparents, George and Orpha
Dennis, and grew up in Holland Township, N.J. He was a life-long
resident of the Milford area. He served in the U.S. Army during
World War II and was missing in action at one time in Germany.
He was a truck driver for Riegel Paper Corp. in Milford, N.J.
for 44 years. His wife, Edna C. Thomas Stamets, died in 2004.
He enjoyed woodworking.
Memberships: He was a life time member of the VFW Post 7857
in Milford, N.J. and served as past Post Commander. He was
a past district commander for VFW District 19, and a member
of the John Dolak American Legion in Alpha, N.J. He was also
a life member and past president of the Milford Volunteer Fire
Company, and a member of the N.J. State Fireman's Association,
and an exempt fire fighter. In addition, he was a member and
past president of the Alexandria Township Board of Education
and a former trustee of the Riegel Federal Credit Union.
Survivors: his daughter,
two grandchildren, of Phillipsburg, and five great grandchildren.
Services: Will be private. Call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday
in the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Rd., Holland
Township, N.J. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum,
Alpha, N.J.
