Edward Shimer, Was Chemical Engineer Here
Edward B. Shimer, 74, of Hillside Avenue, Easton, a retired chemical engineer, died unexpectedly yesterday at Camp Nebo, a hunting lodge in Pike County.
Mr. Shimer was born June 18, 1888, in Easton, a son of the late Porter and Elizabeth Sandt Shimer. He and his father operated the Porter. W. Shimer & Son Co. in Easton.
He was a graduate of Easton High School. He received his chemical engineering degree from Lehigh University in 1910. In 1930 he and his father became interested in farming and modernizing old farm houses.
Mr. Shimer was a member of Electro Chemical Society, American Chemical Society, American Society of Metals, Lehigh Valley Engineering Club, National Farm Chemurgie Council, and the Northampton County Historical and Genealogical Society. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Surviving are his widow, the former Dorothy Kelchner; two daughters, Mrs. Nancy F. Adams, Easton, and Mrs. Sally Snyder, Phillipsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Paff, Easton, and Mrs. Margaret Burn in California, and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Shillinger Funeral Home, Easton. |
