Mrs. G. H. Gies, Was Co-owner of Restaurant
Mrs. Florence A. Gies, 84, widow of George H. Gies, died early yesterday in Easton Hospital, where she had been a patient for the last week. She has been in failing health for five years. She resided at 27 S.16th St., Wilson.
Mrs. Gies and her late husband opened Gies Café, 127 S. 3rd ST., in 1900. She was active in the operation of the business after the death of her husband on Dec 6. 1938. And continued in partnership with her son, John, for a number of years before turning it over entirely to him.
Born in South Easton on June 13, 1875, Mrs. Geis was a daughter of the late William and Mary Barrington Osterstock. She attended Easton Schools. She resided in the Easton-Wilson area all her life.
Mrs. Gies was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Wilson. She formerly was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, South side.
She was a former member of the Elks Auxiliary and a member of the Ladies of the Golden Eagle, both of Easton.
Besides her son, John , she is survived by a daughter, Anita, wife of George Keegan, with whom she lived, and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Searfass, Allentown, and Miss Mary Osterstock, Easton.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thur4sday in Katina Funeral Chapel, Wilson, with Requiem High Mass in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. |
